The Québec Pension Plan provides workers and their families with basic financial protection in the event of retirement, death or disability. The Plan provides a total of six types of benefits in the following three situations:
- In retirement: a retirement pension for a contributor at least 60 years of age.
- Following the death: a surviving spouse’s pension, an orphan’s pension (if applicable) and a death benefit.
- In the event of disability: a disability pension paid to a contributor who becomes disabled and a pension for a disabled person’s child for that person’s children under age 18 or for those who have been living with the disabled person for at least one year.
